Introduction

On behalf of the organizing committee of the Mendel University in Brno, Research Institute for Fodder Crops Ltd., Troubsko and Research Institute for Crop Production, Prague, Research Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Prague and Czech Academy of Agricultural Science, section of Crop production and Phytomedizine.

We are pleased to invite you to the International Conference that will take place in Krtiny, Czech Republic.

The aim and topic of the conference

Soil management is one of the major factors of agricultural production. The diversity of soil and climatic conditions throughout the world has led to the development of various farming systems to match husbandry requirements of crops grown in a given area. Economic considerations and, in more recent years, also environmental concerns, have made it imperative to re-examine the technologies employed in tillage. Because of the impact of agriculture on the environment, agricultural scientists are seeking new approaches to identifying total systems of soil use and management for crop and livestock production that take into account the protection of the environment, energy expenditures, economics, and associated aspects of farming.

Sessions

Papers or posters dealing with the general topic of the conference are invited and will be discussed in the following four sessions:

1. Soil fertility and plant nutrition (soil physics, soil and water management, soil chemistry, soil biology, erosion)
Keynote lecture:
Lukas, V. (CZ): Addressing the within-field spatial variability in crop management
Jug, D., Jug, I., Birkás, M., Vukadinović, V., Đurđević, B., Stipešević, B., Brozović, B.  (CRO-HU): Soil tillage management in mitigation of climate change

2. Soil tillage in relation with crop protection (role of soil tillage in integrated pest management, occurrence and harmfulness of diseases, pests and weeds)
Keynote lecture:
Matušinsky, P. (CZ): Soil management practices and fungal diseases of cereals
Lehoczky, E. (HU): Soil tillage and weeds

3. Perspective soil tillage practices (mechanization of agriculture, energy inputs, economy)
Keynote lecture:
Kroulík, M. (CZ): Soil protection and sustainable utilisation of soil through modern technologies
Rosner, J. (A): Minimum Tillage – soil parameters, new technique, input and yield

4. Cropping systems (modification crop management practices adapted to the soil conditions – crops and crop varieties, crop rotation, fertilization in conventional, organic and precision agriculture)
Keynote lecture:
Kren, J. (CZ): Sustainability assessment of different cropping systems
